MUSICAL: FELA - Oct 11-16, 2011

FELA!
October 11 - 16, 2011
Tickets: Tickets for FELA! All Opening Night Seats just $39.50, plus ticketing fees.
(CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS!)

FELA! Directed by legendary award winning Bill T. Jones is based on the life of Nigerian musician and Human Rights activist, Fela Kuti. FELA’s soulful Afrobeat rhythms which he created ignited a sea change in 20th century music. It is a triumphant tale of courage, passion and love, featuring Kuti’s captivating music and the visionary direction and choreography of Tony Award-winner Bill T. Jones.

FELA! reveals Kuti’s controversial life as an artist and political activist and celebrates his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies). Inspired by his mother, a civil rights champion, Kuti defied a corrupt and oppressive military government and devoted his life and music to the struggle for freedom and human dignity.

FELA! received its world premiere Off-Broadway in September 2008, where it won the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, before transferring to Broadway’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre in November 2009 where its accolades included three 2010 Tony Awards®, for Best Choreography, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Design, and an Astaire Award for Bill T. Jones’ choreography.

EATS: Inman Park Restaurant Week Sept 19 - Sept 25

Inman Park Restaurant Week

Sept. 19th – Sept. 25th, 2011

Savor historic Inman Park with three-course dinners from 14 restaurants. Inman Park Restaurant Week is a splendid opportunity to experience your favorite chef or restaurant.
Located just two miles east of downtown Atlanta, Inman Park is not only the home of gracious Victorian mansions and contemporary new lofts, but also a major culinary destination.  Restaurant-rich, the area has more than 12 restaurants and pubs, offering everything from American, Southern, European and ethnic cuisine to your favorite pub dishes.  No wonder Inman Park has become an area with an increasingly sophisticated palate.
In support of Hunger Action Month, which happens throughout the month of September, the Fall Inman Park Restaurant Week will benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB).  In lieu of ACFB’s regular monthly Supper Club fundraiser with one restaurant serving as host, each location participating in restaurant week will be offering raffle tickets for $1.00 with proceeds benefiting the Food Bank.Tickets will be sold online at www.ACFB.org and at the restaurants beginning August 29 through September 25.
Two winners will be drawn with the grand prize being a party for ONE WINNER AND THIRTY FRIENDS at Park’s Edge, valued at $750!  Chefs from each participating restaurant will prepare appetizers and small plates for the party, as well as provide beer and wine (the winner and guests must be 21 years or older).  Second prize will be a $500 gift card to any local Kroger store.  Winners will be drawn on September 30 at Park’s Edge (the winner does not have to be present to claim the prize).
